Dallas mucky-mucks sit around and discuss impact of economy
It's going to be awful but hopefully it won't be as awful as it is in some other places.
DALLAS Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and a curious assortment of richy-rich sat around on Monday and ruminated on the potential negative impact of the bad economy on the city of Dallas, in what the hosting DMN called an "economic summit" starring 11 "area business leaders". (Actually, they were so proud of their summit that they ran TWO stories.)
"Summit" + "area business leaders" = sounds legit. Basically, they said it's probably going to be awful but hopefully it won't be as awful as it is in some other places.
The story's kindof funny because it goes to great lengths to cite quotes from all of the attendees, as if it was forced to list them all, even when they don't say anything all that remarkable. Here's one: "Worldwide, consumer confidence isn't there right now." Which is something you or I could say, but we probably wouldn't get a room of area business leaders to listen to us. The other interesting thing is finding out that Wilson Chu, a lawyer at Haynes and Boone, ranks as an area business leader. He always shows up in society photos in Paper City and D Magazine identified him as a metrosexual in 2004. Did not know he was an Area Business Leader, too.
