Another Byte in Little Forest Hills in Dallas shut down on Sunday December 7

Another Byte, the little restaurant that opened just a few weeks ago in September in a landscape center in Dallas' Little Forest Hills district, closed on Sunday December 7.

"The amount of hours you have to work for such a small operation, you'd be surprised," said co-owner Marukh Hall. "And the cost of food. By the time I paid my payroll and food costs, there was no profit margin. You would be heartbroken to know how many pork chops and meat loaf got tossed in the trash. It was so expensive. We were successful in that we packed the place on the weekends. But my break-even point was out there. We didn't do this with a bank loan or investors. There's a real sting when you do this with your own money."

But sometimes out of tragedy, new beginnings are formed, and in this case, it's a new business named after a red cat that lives at the site. Welcome Red Cat Consignment, a consignment company that Hall and her husband will run.

"Research shows that it's one of the few industries that's growing," she said.

Meanwhile, they'll host a liquidation sale at the restaurant site on Saturday and Sunday, selling furniture, kitchen items, mixers, tables, chairs, light fixtures, pillows, garden accessories, garden furniture, and artwork. For more information, call 214-545-4671.
