Texas Democratic Party drops appeal in District 105 race
The Texas Democratic Party has withdrawn a request for a restraining order against Dallas County elections officials over contested votes in the House District 105 race.
The move clears the last barrier for elections officials to certify the race, declare incumbent State Rep. Linda Harper Brown (R-Irving) the winner, and cement a narrow 76-74 majority for Republicans in the Texas House.
Harper-Brown defeated Democrat Bob Romano by a mere 19 votes.
Attorneys for Romano say they aren’t sure yet whether Romano will contest the election before the full House of Representatives. Even so, since election contests are decided after a House Speaker is elected, it would make little impact on the race for House Speaker.
