DALLAS The Dallas Independent School District's School of Science and Engineering at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center and the School for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center have been named as two of "America's Best High Schools" by U.S. News and World Report's 2009 list.
The School of Science and Engineering at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center was ranked 18 on the list and the School for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center number 28, which makes them part of the gold medal list.
U.S. News and World Report's analysis of "America's Best High Schools" was based on the schools' performance and on how the schools prepare students for college. The analysis looked at more than 21,000 public high schools in the 48 states.
"We are very proud of both the School of Science and Engineering and the School for the Talented and Gifted for being named as two of the best 100 high schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report's 2009 list," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "This is a good indication that our students are being prepared to be college and workforce ready. Our goal is to soon see more Dallas ISD schools as part of this list."
All the other Dallas ISD schools at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, School of Business and Management, School of Education and Social Services, Magnet Center for Public Services: Government, Law and Law Enforcement, and School of Health Professions, were recognized by this report with a silver award. Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts received honorable mention.
The report of "America's Best High Schools" can be found in the magazine's Web site.

Well duh! It would have been more interesting if they had looked closely at the Middle College programs. It is the last resort for many DISD miscreants, but I can tell you some of those same kids have been some of my best students.
