Arlington mayor calls on incoming pres to help with green jobs

Both Robert Cluck and UT Arlington President James Spaniolo want Barack to know they want his help.

This morning (Dec. 12) at 9:30 a.m., Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck will be joined by University of Texas at Arlington President James Spaniolo on that campus' E.H. Hereford University Center (300 W. First St.) for a news conference to let President-elect Barack Obama know they are looking to him for green leadership.

Specifically, they are calling on the man who says "yes we can" to kick-start some congressional action on the creation of green jobs, and to keep his initiative-driving eye on climate and energy challenges.

This Arlington press conference is planned as one of many around the country during Local Climate Action Week (which - um - is this week, actually, Dec. 8 - 15. Hey, there's still four days to go...).

Both the City of Arlington and UTA have completed carbon footprint analyses measuring greenhouse gas emissions; both tout their records for leadership in recycling, composting and energy conservation programs. Meanwhile, there are numerous alternative energy research projects going on at UTA.

Scott Doyle, says:

Yes, b/c I'm sure Mr. President-Elect cares what the mayor of Arlington and UTA president believe he should do.

Blazingly pompous...I'm almost jealous.

Maybe Mayor Cluck will call on Obama to help improve traffic issues, too.
