DeSoto Food Pantry needs more participation
In its first year of official operation, the DeSoto Food Pantry is committed to not only providing food to identified clients, but boardmembers and volunteers also are working to spread Christmas cheer.
Tough economic times are hindering the spirit of giving in DeSoto.
In its first year of official operation, the DeSoto Food Pantry is committed to not only providing food to identified clients, but boardmembers and volunteers also are working to spread Christmas cheer.
For families who registered by Dec. 1, the pantry is working to supply each family member with gifts.
“In addition to the regular December emergency food box, we hope to supply each client family with gifts and a goody bag,” an organizer said.
Guidelines are as follows: School-aged children and younger in client households will receive Christmas gifts not to exceed $25 worth of clothing (according to types and sizes requested); $15 shoe coupon and toy requests totaling $50 or less.
Adults in client households will receive requests totaling $25 or less.
Pantry boardmembers said they hope to receive gift donations, specifically matched to registered clients, from those with time to shop and monetary donations from those with a heart to help but who may lack time.
“We are proceeding on faith - as we have from the start - that the donations will accommodate the need,” a pantry boardmember said.
For those in the community willing to help, visit the pantry at 302 N. Hampton Road in DeSoto on the Hampton Road Baptist Church campus or e-mail pantry boardmember Debby Baugh at djwb@me. com.
Gift donors will be matched with clients but time is needed to allow for shopping. All gift items should be new and unwrapped and must be at the Pantry on or before Dec.18.
Also, contact the pantry for a list of requested items remaining.
