Former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk in the late running front-runner for U.S. Secretary of Transportation
Ex-mayor Ron Kirk, Dallas' first-ever African-American mayor (having served from 1995 - 2001), is on the short list (as in, we're down to two names, folks) to serve as Secretary of Transportation in the Obama cabinet.
Admitting that he's filling out the Obama transition team's vetting form, Kirk expressed his appreciation for being considered for the post, which - if he were to secure it - would get at least one Texan around that highfalutin' table.
UPDATE: Late Wednesday, Kirk moved into the lead, and though it won't be confirmed until it's announced, said nomination announcement could come as early as Friday.
