Dallas Stars acquire center Brian Sutherby from the Anaheim Ducks
DALLAS The Dallas Stars did more than just deal with the Sean Avery situation Sunday. They also made a deal, acquiring center Brian Sutherby from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for the rights to prospect David McIntyre, who is currently playing college hockey at Colgate, and a conditional sixth round pick in 2010.
Sutherby, 26, has three goals, three assists and a plus-six rating in 17 games for the Ducks this season. He hasn't played since November 19 due to a groin injury, but had been practicing with the Ducks recently and was considered close to a return.
The gritty forward has 29 goals and 39 assists in 321 NHL games with Anaheim and Washington. Sutherby is in the final year of a contract that pays him $700,000. He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
McIntyre, a fifth round pick (138th overall) in the 2006 NHL Draft, is a junior at Colgate. The speedy forward currently leads the team with 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 14 games. In his sophomore season at Colgate, McIntyre picked up 15 goals and 17 assists in 39 games. He finished second on the team in goals and was third in points.
