Texas roads will need $313 billion by 2030 to “stay” in good repair

Many cities want the throwback-style brick roads, they just didn't specify what bricks they would use.

Many cities want the throwback-style brick roads, they just didn't specify what bricks they would use.

A transportation panel, whose members were appointed by the state, have put a hefty price tag on the needs for road repair through 2030: $313 billion.

That figure is what the panel believes TxDOT needs to spend in order to keep Texas roads and highways in good repair and to prevent traffic from getting worse in the major cities. That sum would triple what the department currently spends per year on new projects, and while lawmakers are promising to send more money TxDOT's way, it wouldn't even come close to the $14 billion a year the panel say is needed.
