The standoff in the chicken joint must have looked something like this. (Without all the castle accoutrements, natch.)
You can't make this stuff up, folks. (Well, you could, but no one would buy it.)
Speaking of not buying it, the would-be crook who walked into Eddie's Fried Chicken (in the 1900 block of Hemphill St., in Fort Worth) on Thursday night (Dec. 18) wasn't interested in purchasing any wings, but he DID threaten to wing employees with the weapon he was brandishing if they didn't turn over the register receipts.
His weapon of choice? A tree branch.
Enter a game (but by no means lame) 56-year-old employee bearing a broom, who sparred with the organically-inclined criminal (later identified as Michael Steven Reed, 50) as another employee began poking him with a chair. Surrounded and "outgunned," as it were, Reed took off and was quickly apprehended by police. He's in the Mansfield jail charged with suspicion of aggravated robbery at the time of this report.
