Austin-based movie theater company Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas plans to launch six branches in the Dallas/Fort Worth area between now and 2011. That'll give the Studio Movie Grill chain a run for its money. Alamo intends to have 30 locations open across the country by 2010. They say they had a 14 percent jump in same-store sales in 2007.

FINALLY! Seeing that Alamo Drafthouse has decent programming and first run at their austin/houston locations, it would be a welcomed sight for the No. Texas movie goer, SMG has nothing on the Alamo. I welcome the competition..

I concur that SMG has nothing on Alamo - can't wait!
I'm sure this goes without saying, but needs updates as each one opens. =)

Alegria, ADH was going to open there but backed out a while back. Not sure why, but the Alamo folks really know what they're doing. 'Bout time.

Alegria, I share your wish, but it looks like it will never happen:

Mike et al.: Yeah, I'd seen Big Bob's recent update on the unlikelihood of the Casa Linda theater ever showing movies again. I live in the CL neighborhood, so I'm well aware that there is no real hope of that poor theater ever becoming anything except [maybe] more retail space. But I can always dream that Todd Wagner might open a little indie house there!
Sadly, as long as East Dallas maintains its archaic liquor laws, nothing very exciting is likely to enliven the dreary entertainment scene in Casa Linda and environs.
