Nominations open for Arlington’s MLK “Sharing the Dream” Awards

As reported , the City of Arlington is holding a big "Sharing the Dream" banquet on Jan. 16. During that program, awards will be presented in four categories in recognition of individual dedication and accomplishment in the community:

* The Award in Education is open to all elementary and secondary school teachers, principals or other educators whose spirit of leadership in education embodies the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Nominees can be an educator at an elementary, middle, high school, community college or university within the city limits of Arlington. Nominations are open to public, private and charter schools.

* The Award in Government is open to all who have achieved substantive accomplishments in areas of public policy and/or programs and service that embody the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Nominees can be Texas government employees at the national, state, county, regional or municipal level of government. Elected and appointed officials are also eligible.

* The Award in Community Service is open to individuals who embody the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through service to the community. Nominees can represent a business, church or non-profit organization.

* The Organization Award ("Caring, Connecting and Communicating in the Community") is open to groups and organizations whose work embodies the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through service within their community, schools and government.
