Future Dallas County DNA exonerations in jeopardy due to Madoff scandal
The JEHT Foundation, which provided the funding for post-conviction DNA tests in Dallas County, is closing in January.
Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme didn't just rip off people like Steven Spielberg and the owners of the New York Mets; he also took organizations like the JEHT Foundation to the cleaners. And since the JEHT Foundation, which is closing in January because of the scheme, provided the funding for post-conviction DNA testing in Dallas County, future exonerations may not happen.
To date, Dallas County has exonerated 19 inmates with DNA testing.
