"A chillingly dark Irish tale in a faultless marriage of humor and horror."

Second Thought Theatre is ringing in the New Year with this piece by award-winning playwright Martin McDonagh. McDonagh also wrote The Pillowman, another sinister comedy which enjoyed a fantastically successful run earlier this year at Kitchen Dog Theater. With A Skull in Connemara, McDonagh brings to life a chillingly dark Irish tale in a faultless marriage of humor and horror. Each Fall Mick Dowd is hired to exhume the bones in certain sections of the local cemetery to make room for new arrivals. This year promises to be problematic however, as he is assigned to dig up the bones of his late beloved wife, who died under increasingly suspicious circumstances.

The production features many faces familiar to Second Thought Theatre and just as many here for the first time. John S. Davies, who previously played Detective Simmons in Snake Eyes at the Mardi Gras Motel, takes on the role of Mick Dowd. Ensemble member Drew Wall returns to the STT stage after a critically acclaimed turn as Jeff in Lobby Hero, this time playing a young hooligan named Mairtin. Mairtin’s older brother is a disenchanted policeman named Thomas Hanlon, portrayed by Ian Sinclair. Carolyn Wickwire rounds out the cast as MaryJohnny Rafferty, Mick’s comrade and the boy’s grandmother.

Directing for his first time with Second Thought is T.A. Taylor, who last worked with STT as an actor, playing Jim in Snake Eyes at the Mardi Gras Motel. Producer Allison Tolman says, “We are really pleased that T.A. was available to work on this project. With him taking the lead we feel we have assembled the perfect team to bring this odd, spooky, delightful play to life. We hope everyone will come spend their after-holidays with us!”

A first-rate design team signed on to produce A Skull in Connemara including Jason Driggers, Drew Wall, Judy Wenzel, Clare Floyd-Devries, and John Flores.

The show runs January 2 - 17 and tickets can be purchased online or by calling 972-450-6232.
