RICHARDSON The Eisemann Center is among a select group of Midwest presenters chosen to receive a Mid-America Arts Alliance grant supporting Pilobolus with a performance at the Eisemann Center on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 8:00 pm. A Master Class taught by the company for advanced dance students will be held in the Countrywide Theatre at the Eisemann Center on Friday, February 8, 2008 at 7:00 pm. Arts education and outreach initiatives are now presented as part of the Eisemann Educates program. Tickets for the February 9 performance range from $28-$58 and are available online at www.eisemanncenter.com or by telephone at 972.744.4650.
These presentations are supported by Mid-America Arts Alliance with generous underwriting by the National Endowment for the Arts, Texas Commission on the Arts, and foundations, corporations and individuals throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.
By enriching communities through cultural experiences, Mid-America Arts Alliance enables individuals and families across America’s heartland to share in and to enjoy the arts and cultures of our region and the world.
The primary goal of the Pilobolus Master Class for dancers and observers alike is to increase awareness, understanding and appreciation of the dance in the North Texas region through the unique technique and artistry of Pilobolus. The class will highlight the company’s unusual movement technique and their history of encouraging dancers to be creative and think of and see themselves as choreographers. The Pilobolus Method is referred to as an approach to creative thinking. Students will be encouraged to do away with their preconceptions about what dance should be and explore movements unique to each individual. Pilobolus has historically reached out to people of all backgrounds, many of whom do not know or understand dance and taught them how to move and create dances in a collaborative spirit unmatched by any other dance company.
Mary Kennedy McCabe, Mid-America Arts Alliance Executive Director said, “The Charles W. Eisemann Center through Eisemann Center Presents is to be commended for their commitment to serving their community with these distinctive events. Audiences in the North Texas region will have the opportunity to see the exciting work of Pilobolus, many for the first time, and Mid-America Arts Alliance is proud to help support this work, the Eisemann Center and Eisemann Center Presents.”
