The Studio Movie Grill folks, who started their film, food & fun franchise with the Addison location in 1998, will be grand-opening their sixth theater/restaurant thingamabob on Monday, Feb. 4 at the NE quadrant of Royal Lane and Central Expressway.
If I'm reading this press release correctly (i.e., right-side up), the new near-North Dallas venue will serve as the chain's flagship. (Will they fly some sort of special banner out front? Stay tuned.) The new theater will operate no differently than the other Studio Movie Grills: that is, you (the ticket buyer) kick back and enjoy the show from your plush recliner-type seat while waitpersons respond to your beck and call by carting out platters full of food and/or beverages.
The new SMG is housed in a 40,000 sq. ft. facility that includes eight theaters, with one big 400-seat auditorium.
Upcoming special screenings include early looks at The Spiderwick Chronicles and Run, Fat Boy, Run. Passes for these and other promotional events will be announced via Studio Movie Grill-Dallas e-news, which you can subscribe to here.

GWAR / Kingdom of Sorrow / Toxic Holocaust Only lead singer Oderus Urungus (aka Dave Brockie) has stuck around since GWAR's start 23 years ago, but the huge costumes, raunchy and obscene lyrics, and fluids spraying into the audience are sure to be on full display as the metal band makes its return to Dallas. My wife and I were at the "Royal Opening" this past Saturday night. Klieg lights, red carpet, the whole nine yards! It's very minimalist, modern inside and very nice. It's a great addition to the neighborhood.
Nice little bar inside, too!
