And the 2008 Texas Music Award nominees are…
The 2008 Texas Music Awards nominations came out last Friday, recognizing the efforts of (mostly) Texas musicians playing Texas music. Despite some questions as to the legitimacy of these awards, they have grown in popularity over the past several years. Of the 73 nominations, some locals have made the list, including:
- Randy Brown (Fort Worth) - Male Vocalist of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year (Hard Face to Face)
- Randy Brown Band - Live Band of the Year
- Randy Brown, Tommy Alverson, & Chad Rueffer - Producer of the Year (Hard Face to Face)
- Bad Monkey (Garland) - Vocal Duo or Group of the Year
- Kevin Deal (Dallas) - Album of the Year (Roll, Lloyd Maines is nominated producer of the year for his work on this album)
- KFWR 95.9 FM (Fort Worth) - Broadcast Radio Station of the Year
Among the nominations are other familiar names such as the Bart Crow Band and Wade Bowen, who come through town regularly and are each up for Record of the Year (not to be confused with Album of the Year).

Voting, which began today and will run through February 22, is broken into three sections: public vote (that's you), member vote, and Academy Board vote. Each carries a different weight to decide who the winner is. Learn more about the nomination and voting process here.
The Texas Music Award Presentation is set for May 3 at the Civic Center in Palestine, TX, with a red carpet at noon, show starting at 2 p.m. The after party will feature five bands performing live.
