Dallas Stars goalie Marty Turco named NHL’s Second Star of the Week

Turco backstopped the Stars to three crucial wins.

— The National Hockey League announced today that Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco has been named the NHL’s Second Star for the week ending Feb. 3. Detroit’s Pavel Datsyuk and New York Rangers’ Chris Drury were named the First and Third Stars of the Week, respectively. Each Monday, the NHL recognizes three players who delivered the League’s top performances over the preceding week.

In three games last week following the All-Star Break, Turco went 3-0-0, winning all three games on a road trip to Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. He also collected a 1.67 goals-against-average and a .948 save percentage during the trip, earning First Star of the Game honors on Feb. 2 in Calgary, Second Star on Feb. 1 in Edmonton and Third Star on Jan. 29 in Vancouver. He faced 30-plus shots in all three games.

The 5-11, 185-pound goaltender has appeared in 40 games this season, posting a 22-11-4 record with a 2.35 goals-against-average and a .910 save percentage. Only Martin Brodeur has more consecutive 30-win seasons (11) among active goalies. Turco entered this season with four straight 30-win campaigns.
