Sculpture squabble doesn’t halt Keller’s progress on veterans memorial
The Keller City Council voted on Tuesday to move forward with their plans for the town's Veterans Memorial Park. To this point, the council had alloted $55,000 of the total $80,000 needed to commission artist Darrell Davis' Protector of Freedom sculpture for the memorial. Councilman Jim Carson, who is against city money being spent on public art, suggested calling a special May 10 election allowing residents to vote whether they want to put that money towards the sculpture. Other council members and a representative of the Keller Rotary Club expressed their displeasure with Carson's suggestion, claiming that a special vote like this concerning the memorial park sculpture was "embarrassing" to the veterans it meant to honor.
For Jim Carson's take, check out his blog posts on the subject at KellerCityLimits.com.
