Spiceman’s F.M. 1410 in Dallas bringing in “romantic” veggies for Valentine’s Day

Spiceman's F.M. 1410, the specialty-produce market from Tom Spicer, has a very nice trilogy of fresh salad items produced here in the state of Texas and they are:

Jim Henry's Texas Olive Oil. The 55-gallon drum of Texas Olive Crude I promised would arrive last Friday, February 1st did arrive and was pumping by 1:15 pm that afternoon. This is the freshest tasting, full bodied, and unfiltered extra virgin olive oil in the state and has a nice, spicy finish, as it should. Bring a clean, dry vessel if you can otherwise you'll need to improvise and I'll help you especially if you need to quickly drain a wine bottle.

I don't want to post any prices here but you will be happy with your purchase, I "guarautee" it... wait, that's George Zimmer's line, well... it's fitting.

Pecos, Texas Heirloom Tomatoes. Mostly Brandy Wine, Pink Lady, and Purple Calabash with a very small amount of Green Zebras, which come in with some small yet excellent vine ripe tomatoes.

Jose Rico Greens. Jose has been showing up unannounced with bags and bags of tiny "Lolita" lettuces (red oak, lollo, red romaine and some green romaine) along with Pea Tendril Tips, wild Watercress, Arugula (no wild arugula yet), Sorrel, as well as Tatsoi, Mizuna, and Red Mustards. All are Asian Mustards with Red Russian Kale being the odd man out.

I've been cautious about procuring baby veggies (haricots, flageols/broad beans and vegetable marrows/squashes) this time of year due to supply and demand being seasonally slumped not to mention quality not so good and prices are high but stick around because that's bound to change and may change in an instant. You know what a hawk I am...

Also: Fresh Hearts of Palm, Fennel Pollen, Sea Beans, Artichoke Tulips and Broken Bottoms.

Mushrooms: Thursday I expect to receive Black Trumpets, Hedge Hogs and Yellow Foot Chanterelles from the wild with Petite and Medium Organic Shiitake and Maitake from the Oregon Hippies. Abalone Mushrooms are on hand with King Oyster and Shimejii on the way. OK! Retail Wild Mushrooms go for $20 per pound, and the others run about $10 per pound.

Micro Greens, packed in 8 oz. clamshell containers: Bulls Blood Beet Tops, Pepper Cress, Cilantro, Chervil, and Mixed. I'm gearing up for the production of "living flats" of Micro Greens like you've seen from me in the past and many of you have requested them lately.

Fresh Herbs: Basil, Chervil, Chives, Mint, Oregano, Rosemary, Tarragon, Thyme... (I'm getting sleepy...) whatevherbs you want, I go get them if I don't have them.

For Valentines Day I plan to have some very romantic items in store for everyone...here are a few:

Jose Rico's Baby Mixed Carrots w/tops (purple, yellow, orange) are expected to be available in the next few days. Should also have Red Swiss Chard, Fresh, hand turned Artichoke Tulips, Fresh Hearts of Palm, Romantic Red Romaine, Micro Bulls Blood Beet Tops, Edible Rose Pedals and Edible Flower Confetti. I'm weighing the option of fruits as well which, if I did procure some fruits, they would be things like: Cherries, Dates, Passion Fruit, Figs, Lady Apples, Raspberries and Strawberries for the Vaentine occaision...let me know how interested you are, that's what'll help me make that decision. Thank you.

You're an incurable romantic, 'Dog. (But you might want to try another couple of doses of Cipro.)

I see what he did there.

Speaking of incurable romantics, looks like Mike Mac already got fed up and left. At least, haven't seen him comment since he said he was gonna bounce. *Someone's* gotta fill those lover-boy shoes.

the oil certainly wasn't expensive...fresh tasting is a good way to describe it. I'm not really a black trumpet expert but I really liked what I got. How do I get on the mailing list?
