Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries sold Hollywood memorabilia that was fake
Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries sold a bunch of fake Hollywood memorabilia for which it will have to reimburse the buyers.
They took the word of a prop company LA Prop and Wardrobe, based in Meridian, Miss., without verifying the goods were real. One buyer of a whiskey flask that supposedly belonged to Errol Flynn called the mother daughter of actress Ann Sothern to ascertain its authenticity and learned it was a fake.
Heritage president Greg Rohan called the situation "mortifyingly embarrassing," but another dealer said that it's their job to have tracked the stuff and that he's seen LA Prop buying merchandise on eBay and then re-selling it to Heritage.

So I shouldn't buy the Abraham Lincoln autographed "Rookie Season" baseball card from their site?

T.G.: I would double check that flask buyer's authenticity, too. Ann Sothern was born in 1909. If her mother is still alive, kicking and telling people that they've bought a fake, it's definitely one for the record books.

I'm still torn. He hit only .212 and lost out to Stephen Douglas for Rookie of the Year, but the card's in pretty good shape.
