Public access television: fuzzy and awkward yet awesome since 19somethingyear.

The show airs daily at five separate times: midnight, 6 a.m., noon, 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

A library of past shows can be found on the city’s Web site by going to www.gptx.org/GPTV.

Produced by the city’s Communication and Marketing Department’s Cable Office, GP Update provides information to residents on current events, news, services, programs and events.

“A news show has been one of my goals this past year,” said Grand Prairie Mayor Charles England. “The local media covers the big stuff, but not the smaller programs and events that mean so much to our citizens’ lives. GP Update fills that void.”

Each show, 15-30 minutes long, features anchors Don Johnson and Terry Briggs, both veteran broadcast journalists. In addition to news and feature stories, GP Update features a Community Calendar and soon will feature a segment produced by the South Grand Prairie High School Media Tech Class.

“We are really excited about adding the high school segment,” said Amy Sprinkles, Communications and Marketing Director for the city of Grand Prairie. “Those kids are very talented and have a unique voice. This will give them an opportunity to show their work and develop their reporting skills.”

GP Update began airing the week of Jan. 13, 2008.
