Wood carvings from old Grapevine tree on sale for limited time
... because the tree was of limited size.
Instead of 80 - 100 smaller items, they might have gone with one big really awesome chainsaw sculpture. But no.
A pecan tree estimated to be 187 years old (judging by tree rings) blew down during a storm that hit Grapevine's Parr Park last May. The City of Grapevine has contracted with local artisans to have pieces of the old tree (which was originally thought to be over 200 years old) carved into kitschy bric-a-brac which will be sold from City Hall at prices ranging from $25 to $95.
We're talking wooden pens, wine stoppers, bowls, plates... you get the idea, and if you're still fuzzy on it head over to 200 S. Main St. and take a look at the items up for grabs.
Hey, it's all for a good cause: profits (after paying off the artisans) go to city coffers to be used in support of park projects.
