The next few days will be your last opportunity to see these shows and a couple are only running for this weekend only, so try to make your way to the theatre:
- Fences, presented by Denton Community Theatre. Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues is working as a garbage man in 1957. Maxson sees the world as composed mostly of fences which enclose him. He is very bitter that he was excluded from major league baseball during his prime and was too old to play when the sport finally was integrated. Maxson's son wants a chance at professional sports, but Maxson refuses to let him try his luck. Troy Maxson does not see that not all the fences in his life are societal and that he is fencing in his family. Call 940-382-1915 to reserve tickets ($10-17).
- An Infinite Ache, presented by Rover Dramawerks. Hope and Charles are a pair of lonely twenty-somethings about to end a supremely uninteresting first date. But just as they say good night, the myriad possibilities of their futures and a life shared together come rushing to meet them. From their first kiss to their first child, from a horrible tragedy to a second chance, each moment moves with breathtaking speed. A love story about time and the infinite directions in which two lives can travel. Written by David Schulner, part of the hit team from Desperate Housewives fame. Purchase tickets ($15-18) online or by calling 972-849-0358.
- As You Like It, presented by WaterTower Theatre & SMU. Driven from her home by her usurping uncle, Rosalind seeks protection in the Forest of Arden. There she must use her wit and wisdom to mend wicked hearts, redeem the wrongfully slandered and explore the uncharted landscape of the heart. One of Shakespeare’s most magical and romantic adventures, As You Like It celebrates the enduring power of love in all its many disguises. Tickets ($20-30) can be purchased online or by calling the box office at 972-450-6232.
- Whatever She Wants, presented by The Black Academy of Arts & Letters. Witness the power, strength and honesty of Vivian Wolof as she searches for the perfect man who just may not come in the perfect box. This puzzling romantic comedy deals with one woman’s determination and quest to rediscover who she really is. The show, written by Je'Caryous Johnson, stars Vivica A. Fox, Boris Kodjoe, Lil G from Silk, Scruncho from BET’s ComicView and special guest Richard Roundtree. Purchase tickets ($17.50-42.50) online.
- 13th International Theater Festival, presented by Teatro Dallas. Featuring 3 shows, including cabaret, comedy, and drama. Click here for a complete festival schedule. Purchase tickets ($15-30) online or by calling 214-689-6492.
- B at the Beginning, presented by Collin Theatre Center Alt Series for this weekend only. As Kevin and Tabitha pursue their budding relationship, they are interrupted by Ben, Kevin’s autistic nephew, who comes to live with them spontaneously. The couple must learn to overcome their individual interests and enter Ben’s world. Performances are free.
- The Odd Couple, presented by Company of Rowlett Performers for this weekend only. This classic comedy opens as a group of the guys assembled for cards in the apartment of divorced Oscar Madison, and if the mess is any indication, it's no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Unger who has just been separated from his wife. Since he is very fastidious and none too tense, they fear he might commit suicide and go about locking all the windows. When Felix arrives, he is scarcely allowed to go to the bathroom alone. As the action unfolds, the clean freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born. Tickets ($10-15) are available by calling 972-977-7710.

The Beach Boys with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Beach Boy trivia: Though surfing was a prominent theme in many of the Beach Boys' early songs, Dennis Wilson was the only original member who surfed. "Kokomo" was the Beach Boys' first hit in 20 years and ended up being their biggest selling single. Paul McCartney once said that "God Only Knows" was the most beautiful pop song ever written.
