TCU baseball recruiting class second-best in Texas
Inside Prep Baseball has ranked TCU's 2008 signing classes as the second best in the state behind Texas.
Inside Prep Baseball has ranked TCU's 2008 signing classes as the second best in the state behind Texas. The Horned Frog coaching staff, headed by recruiting coordinator and Associate Head Coach Todd Whitting, inked five of the Top 25 players from the state of Texas, including the fourth-best prospect in local product, Walker Kelly. In total, TCU signed nine players for the 2009 season.
"This recognition is well deserved for many reasons," remarked Schlossnagle. "Obviously, it reflects the hard work and diligence of Coach Whitting and our coaching staff. Also, the quality of the student-athletes in this class represent what a great university we are fortunate to work for."
Rounding out the top five recruiting classes in the state were Rice, who signed four of the Top 25, Texas A&M, who inked one and Baylor.
"This class is full of top-shelf talent, but maybe more important than that is that most, if not all of them should make it to campus next fall," said Jason Becker, editor of Inside Prep Baseball. "There are a couple of guys who could certainly improve their stock enough over the spring to get drafted high enough to sign. The probability looks higher, though, that the entire class will go to school, and most of them will have a chance to contribute immediately."
Along with Kelly, four other signees earned rankings by Inside Prep Baseball. Matt Thompson (RHP, Burleson) ranked 13th, Kaleb Merck (RHP/Util, Keller) was the 15th-ranked player, Kyle Winkler (RHP, Sugar Land) ranked 19th and Davey Wright (C/Util, Fort Worth) came in at 23.
Also signing in November were Taylor Featherston (INF, Katy), Travis Jenkins (LHP, Alvin) and Brance Rivera (INF) of Muscatine, Iowa. Transferring in the fall is Matt Curry from Howard College (INF, Red Oak, Texas).
"The most exciting thing about this class is, not only, are they an incredibly talented group but, it is a group that we expect to show up at TCU in the fall and make a significant contribution to the program," said Schlossnagle.
