Kettle Art is celebrating the opening of Sergio Garcia’s first solo show, “Formal” with a formal grand opening gala on February 16 at 7:00 p.m. at 2714 Elm, Dallas, TX. The show will feature Garcia’s airbrushed metal works, oils on canvas and installation pieces including taxidermy style animals made of foam and embellished with painted logos of well-known luxury brands. Kettle Art will be transformed into an elegant salon to provide a fitting backdrop for Garcia’s work that will highlight the importance of having a name, visibility and popularity.

“Formal” will be equal parts social event and art opening. Participants are being asked to dress “to the nines.”

At 10:30 p.m. the Formal celebration will move next door to Club Dada at 2720 Elm, where DJ crews including Hot Flash, The Party and Cool Out will be spinning in formal attire.

Garcia has been a regular contributor to past Kettle Art collaborative shows, but this will be Kettle Art’s first event dedicated solely to the work of one artist.

"Most people design a painting to make a statement but I’m doing a whole exhibit and encouraging people to become a part of it," says Sergio Garcia. “There’s something about dressing up that makes the vibe feel different – like a museum experience."

Dallas-based Garcia got his start doing graffiti. Although graffiti got him into trouble and landed him in jail several times, it also led to a meeting with Frank Campagna, co-owner of Kettle Art. Campagna encouraged Garcia to focus on painting murals a move that led to Garcia to his present job of painting motorcycles for top motorcycle builders including Rick Fairless Strokers’ Dallas and American Iron Horse Motorcycles.

"As a dreamer, Sergio tends to go out there, come up with ideas, challenge himself and sees these concepts into reality,” says Campagna.

Kettle Art is an artist run gallery located in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas showing works by many Texas based artists. Kettle Art was awarded “Best Defiant Spirit” and “Readers’ Choice Best Art Gallery” in the 2007 Dallas Observer “Best Of” Awards. Visit www.kettleart.com.
