More than 100 people picketed in front of the Church of Scientology in the 1800 block of North Buckner Boulevard on Sunday, part of a nation-wide protest against the L. Ron Hubbard-spawned religion.
In Dallas, they were protesting specifically the death of former Dallasite Lisa McPherson, who died in Florida under a Scientologist's care.

What exactly do they plan on accomplishing with these protests? To make crazy people stop believing in crazy things??

That poor neighborhood. Years ago, that terrific sorta largish house was 'remodeled' into a tasteless gaudy sorta enormous oversized overscale (this before the MacMansion craze) house and given the ghastly name (complete with huge signage) GRANDWICK (!) Then, when it would not sell (everybody say 'duh') the Scientology people bought the house. The rest was a nice neighborhood's history.

Yeah, that house is uuuuugly. It is sad. The cool underground house is just across Buckner.

Anybody remember when the DMN ran a big feature on the Scientologists moving to spacious new quarters in Las Colinas? The house went up for sale then, but seeing no takers, I guess they stayed put.

I saw them out there on Sunday. All those scary masks. I knew the Scientology "Castle" was there, so I assumed it had something to do with them. As I always have a camera in my car, I took some photos on my way back through. It really gave me the creeps! Is there a way to add photos to the comments page?

TC:
If you become verified, you can post photos you have anywhere else online (like flickr).
Or you can email them to photos (AT) pegnews dot com.
Thanks!

Im all for what Anonomyous(internet group who organized this) and why they did over the weekend. The problem with $cientology is that its a pay to play "religion" that has no real oversight where and how its money is spent, activities conducted (see: Fair Game policy) nor do they account for the death of Lisa McPherson. These people and their system is dangerous, plain and simple. Too bad theres still idiots out there who want to join up due to the celebrity factor...

Taking followers' money, questionable oversight, and not assuming responsibility for deaths...
That sure doesn't sound like any other religion I've ever heard of!

Scott, rarely do you see $cientology get out and actually help their community. You dont see them feeding and clothing the less fortunate or helping out when a disaster strikes. Only thing ive seen them do is push their agenda and blame others who call them out for their inaction.

I don't make it a point to look for them doing good deeds. I'm not defending them, either. They're crazy people imo. I'm just pointing out that their noted flaws aren't exactly rogue compared to other religions.
Not to mention, a bunch of internet nerds masking themselves while following Anonymous' voice-modified instruction to protest L. Ron Hubbard's sci-fi religion is extremely humorous to me.

Years ago, I made an offer on Grandwick (Grandwyck?), but there were some structural issue, and the neighborhood was a shooting gallery. Still not a neighborhood I'd jog in after dark, but things are getting better. Wonder if they ever corrected the foundation and structural issues?
