The City of Dallas is making a commitment of the heart this Valentines Day! Specifically, the City will announce its plan to not only train its entire workforce in the life-saving skills of basic CPR and choking interventions, but also how to access and use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
Partnering with the American Heart Association (AHA), the City will use the ground-breaking -- and only half-hour long -- “CPR Anytime” program to accomplish this very “do-able” task. The City will also issue a challenge to other employers, schools and businesses to provide similar widespread CPR-AED training in an effort to proliferate as many “Heartstarters” in Dallas as possible with the eventual goal of establishing Dallas as one of the safest cities in the nation for medical emergencies.
Provided by a generous grant from the Hoblitzelle Foundation, new City employees and the City employees that attend the City-wide mini-conference training will receive a “CPR Anytime” kit that they each can take home to train their own families and friends.
The very short, but also very effective training course was conducted for the City Council last May. Within the first few months, in different incidents, Councilmembers Pauline Medrano and Linda Koop had already used their skills to save lives. Both will give testimonials about those experiences.
