Echo Theatre, the Southwest’s only theater company dedicated to producing plays written by women, is continuing their 10th anniversary season with the opening of Daisy in the Dreamtime this week. The show runs from February 14 - March 8, with a pay-what-you-can preview on Valentine's Day as well as pay-what-you-can performances every Thursday of the run.
Daisy in the Dreamtime is the true story of Daisy Bates, an Irish woman who abandoned her family and the comforts of Victorian society, pitched a tent in the Australian outback, and spent her life fighting to preserve the Aboriginal culture -- where people live free of the two great obsessions of modern civilization: the pressure of time and the accumulation of goods. Daisy is a compelling story of surprising friendship, crushing loss, and tectonic change, told with lightness, humor and humility. A hauntingly beautiful account of what happens when a woman elects to leave one world and enter another – the dreamtime.
