The Patriots Basketball Team knocks down two records with a 93-82 victory over Lincoln University on Monday night, at the Burg Center . The victory gave DBU its fourth straight victory and third straight Heartland Conference win, which are both a school record.
The win propelled DBU into sole possession of fourth place in conference play and improved their overall record to 9-14 and conference record to 3-5. Lincoln on the other hand fell to 6-14 and 1-4.
DBU once again came out shooting the ball well after they took a commanding 13-point lead into the half. The Patriots played strong team defense and forced Lincoln into several turnovers in the first half. Senior Manny Montano held down the paint, while Freshman Braxton Adamson continues to extend the opposing team's defense with his three-point shot. Adamson had 14 points at the half, while Montano punched in nine points.
The second half saw the Blue Tigers come out determined to make a game of it. Lincoln went on a 10-0 run to tie the score up and eventually take a two-point lead. The Blue Tigers used the three-point shot to get back in the game and forced some easy turnovers out of the Patriots.
With the game seesawing back and forth, DBU went on a run with about four minutes to play in the game. Senior Nick Michels threw down a convincing dunk that ignited DBU to run away with the game. Lincoln fought till the final second but several key stops and a few free-throw makes by the Patriots helped close out the victory.
Adamson once again led the way after he scored a game high 22 points, including knocking down six of nine shots beyond the arch. Montano finished his night with 13 points and four boards, while Michels came off the bench to score 15 points, along with grabbing six rebounds. Junior Brandon Wash also had a strong game off the bench, with 15 points and 11 boards.
The Patriots shot 51 percent from the field, 46 percent from three-point land, and knocked down 26 of 39 free-throw attempts. DBU held the Blue Tigers to 42 percent shooting from the field, 35 percent from beyond the arch, and forced them into 23 turnovers.
DBU will be in action again on February 16, when they play host to Johnson and Wales University. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 in the Burg Center.
