Kid playing with lighter causes Fort Worth apartment blaze

Email Print Tell us your story Comment (1)

The fire which ravaged a Fort Worth apartment complex Wednesday morning (Feb. 13), resulting in $700K in damage (but fortunately no serious injuries), was started accidentally by a 13-year-old boy playing with a cigarette lighter, say authorities.

The teenager fessed up after running to the nearby fire station to report the blaze. Inconceivably in this day and age when everyone behind the wheel (or sitting on the crapper, or waiting in line at the fast food restaurant) has a phone to their ear, it turns out this kid didn't have one.

Lessons learned, kids:

  • Don't play with lighters; matches are safer.
  • If you're going to play with fire, don't do it in your bedroom.
