Act now if you want to nab a couple of tickets to the forthcoming Wizard of Oz-themed symphonic event at the Meyerson. The AFI Dallas folks have arranged for a block of tics to the April 4 performance designated for their patrons and supporters.
While Friday, Feb. 15 is the last day you can buy one of these AFI seats (by calling Ashley Delaney at 214-871-4075, as per the AFI press release), a quick call to Ashley confirmed that tickets to this and the other performances (April 5 & 6) can be purchased right up until the date of the performance - or until the seats sell out. Travel virtually to the Meyerson schedule (and scroll down to the Deloitte Pops Series) to arrange for non-AFI-block seats.
This unique Wizard of Oz program will consist of the DSO, under the direction of conductor Richard Kaufman, performing the live symphonic score to the 1939 film. The kicker is that the voice tracks from the movie - including the voices of Judy Garland, Frank Bolger and all the other original performers - will play along with the music. In other words, it's the movie without the visuals - in full symphonic splendor.
Ticket prices in the AFI block range from $41 to $70; individual ticket purchases would add pricing options of $81 and $82, if you're keen to sit in either the Orchestra Terrace or Dress Circle Box areas.
