UNT swimmer Garcia-Meitin earns swimmer of the week honor
Coming off consecutive dual-meet wins for the first time this season, a North Texas swimmer has garnered Sun Belt Swimmer of the Week honors.
Bonnie Garcia-Meitin continued to rack up first place finishes during the 2007-08 season as the senior from Angleton tallied five more first place finishes last week against Texas Christian University and Sun Belt foe, New Orleans.
Garcia-Meitin won both the 100 and 200 backstroke and was part of both first place relay teams against TCU to give North Texas its first ever victory against the Horned Frogs in 17 attempts.
Her time of 2:05.23 was her fifth fastest time of the season and is faster than all but five individual best posted in the Sun Belt this year. Garcia-Meitin followed up the TCU win with a first place victory in the 50 freestyle over New Orleans; an event she had swam only three other times this season. It is the second time this season that Garcia-Meitin has been honored as swimmer of the week.
Next up, the Mean Green will travel to Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 28-March 1 to compete at the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
