UT-Arlington men’s tennis defeats Centenary and Cameron

The UT Arlington men's tennis team defeated visiting Centenary College 7-0 Thursday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center. The Mavs improve to 2-4 on the season, while the Gents fall to 0-2.
The Mavs began the match by sweeping doubles play. The freshman duo of Brieuc Hamon and Nishant Hari defeated Alejandro Ahuja and Gerry Lozano 8-2 as the No. 2 doubles. At top seed, sophomore Dmitry Minkin and freshman David Costa teamed to beat Mark Rodgman and Jacob Dawson 8-2. Freshman Hugo Taracido and sophomore Gonzalo Bienzobas posted an 8-0 win over Oscar Medellin and Seva Kostelanetz at the three-spot.
In singles action, Costa defeated Rodgman 6-0, 6-3 at the top seed. Minkin beat Ahuja in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Taracido picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Medellin at No. 3. Hamon topped Lozano 6-0, 6-3 at the four-seed. Bienzobas registered a 6-0, 6-2 win over Kostelanetz at No. 5. Hari closed out the match by beating Dawson 6-1, 6-4 at the six-spot.

After sweeping its first match of the day the UT Arlington men's tennis team picked up the 6-1 victory over Cameron in the second match of its doubleheader at the UTA Tennis Center on Thursday. The Mavs improve to 3-4 on the season, while the Aggies start out 0-1.
The Mavs got off to a quick start by picking up the first point of the match in doubles. The No. 1 duo of freshman David Costa and sophomore Dmitry Minkin stayed undefeated on the year by beating Daniel Pazos and Ignacio Murgier 8-4. At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Gonzalo Bienzobas and freshman Hugo Taracido defeated Jordi Mullor and Saman Samii 8-5. The Cards dropped the No. 2 match, with freshmen Brieuc Hamon and Nishant Hari losing to Nicolas Mascheroni and Cristian Easton 8-6.
In singles, Costa defeated Mullor 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 at the top seed. Minkin dropped the first set 1-6, but came back to win 6-3, 7-5 as the No. 2 singles. Taracido picked up the easy 6-0, 6-1 win over Mascheroni in the No.3 match. At No. 4, Hamon defeated Murgier 6-2, 6-0. Bienzobas registered a 7-5, 6-3 win over Samii at No. 5 slot.
Cameron's lone point came at the No. 6 spot, where Easton defeated Hari 6-4, 7-6.
The Mavs will closeout their three-match home stand on Sunday against Arkansas-Little Rock at 2 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center. The women's team was also scheduled to play UALR, but that match has been cancelled.
