Escaped prisoner given life sentence for firing at officers during said escape
But the presence of Johnston's own child at the shooting proved the final straw for the deciding U.S. District Judge.
In July, Jason Lee Johnston escaped from the Hood Country Jail, firing shots from his getaway vehicle at a Fort Worth police officer.
By the following October, Johnston had been found guilty on four counts, including attempted first-degree murder of a federal officer.
But the fact that Johnston's own toddler son was inside the getaway car during the shooting was the icing on the cake for U.S. District Judge John McBryde, who on Friday, February 15th ensured the sentence against Johnston was a life sentence.
