Clouds, rain, and wind could blow your chance to see the lunar eclipse

This is your moon on drugs.

This is your moon on drugs.

Eclipse nerds North Texas over are cursing their moon rock collections as we speak with the news that bad weather could obscure or completely block their view of tonight's lunar event.

The eclipse is slated to start just before 8 p.m. and reach its peak at 9:52 p.m. The bad news is that in Dallas and Fort Worth it is expected to be partly to mostly cloudy all day and night, with a 30% chance of showers expected at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. Of course, the same weather forecast reports that we are under mostly cloudy conditions currently at 10:30 a.m., but looking out the window is currently impossible because of the glaring sunshine. So who knows. Your best odds are to pray to the various moon gods, Selene, Luna, Allah, and Hubal, and tell mother nature where to stick it.

This sucks. I totally spaced out on the date yesterday, and was pretty happy that the sky was all clear, and drove out to UTD to watch the eclipse, only to realize that it was today when I arrived.

Oh well. I can always just get some red cellophane and recreate the experience later.

How exactly did you realize you were a day early? Did you sleep at all last night?

Damnation, I forgot what time this was supposed to go down and missed it. Console me with confirmation that I couldn't have seen it if I wanted to...please?

when i was driving home at 8:30-ish, the clouds parted briefly and i saw the bright white moon, with a curved shadow covering half of its face. the obscured part was almost black. i got a momentary thrill like, OH it's the eclipse and i'm witnessing one of the most meaningful occurrences on the planet. however, if i hadn't known it was the eclipse, i might've thought, "hey, the moon is at its halfway point." i mean, not groundbreaking or anything.

the break in the clouds didn't last very long. if you live in the dallas-y area, i'd guess you'd have missed the climax, cuz it started raining a short while later

Huh? I got to UTD, noted the empty field and the total lack of any sort of eclipse.

And yeah, I saw the moon for a brief moment, but it just looked like an ordinary phase.
