Texas Wesleyan’s Turner named women’s basketball player of the week
Texas Wesleyan University’s Brittany Turner has been named Red River Athletic Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week for the period of February 11-17. Turner shared the honor with Langston University’s Jamie Skinner.
Turner, a junior center from Dallas, TX, matched her career highs in scoring and rebounding in the same game as the Lady Rams defeated Southwestern Assemblies of God University (TX), 81-71. She connected on 6-of-10 field goal attempts and 10-of-14 from the free throw line in the game, finishing with 22 points and 16 rebounds.
Skinner, a senior forward from Miami, FL, recorded a pair of double-doubles last week for the RRAC’s top team. In an 89-65 win over Houston Baptist University (Texas), she accounted for 26 points and 13 rebounds, and she followed with 18 points and 14 boards to knock off JCC, 93-60, on Saturday. The Lady Lions remained unbeaten in the RRAC at 12-0 with a 23-1 mark overall.
Texas Wesleyan stands at 16-9 overall and 8-5 in conference play. They will return to the court on Saturday, when they host Dallas Christian College. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
