Tollway speed limits may increase, thanks to long-delayed speed study

North Texas Tollway Authority might consider this sort of thing for enforcement of the new speed limits. Or not, I guess.

North Texas Tollway Authority might consider this sort of thing for enforcement of the new speed limits. Or not, I guess.

The North Texas Tollway Authority may be raising speed limits soon on Dallas North Tollway and the Bush Turnpike, because state-mandated tests designed to determine reasonable and comfortable speeds for the roadways were never carried out. Now that they have been conducted, the tests are showing that posted speed limits are just too dang low for the driving conditions.

No word yet as to how high the speed limits will go, but posted speed limits may be changed within the next several months.

I'm pulling for a no-excuses limit of 85, regulated by overpass-mounted laser-bots. To heck with all this ticketing nonsense.

On the Channel 8 news today they mentioned the limit might be raised to 70.

Oops, I thought it was already 70!

Apparently you were part of the 85% it supposedly takes to enact change.

I know on the Bushway, it just feels like you're going too slow. About damn time!

I support the laser bot idea as soon as I cover my car with mirrors.

This explains why I have seen so few cops on the G. Bush on my daily commute of late. I drive every day between Richardson and Irving, and it was incredible how many police agencies were gathering revenue on this stretch of road. Besides the Texas Department of Public Safety, there were municipal departments (especially Carrolton), as well as Dallas County Constables (don't they have subpoenas to serve?). It was like running the gauntlet every morning, waiting to see if it was my turn to get whacked.

In the last few weeks, I have noticed almost NO cops lurking about, and very few traffic stops in progress. My commute time is about 5 minutes shorter, because traffic is moving much more freely. (I'd say most people drive at least 70 on this road; I feel "comfortable" at 80.)

I think it's outrageous that the various municipal and county governments have been using this road as a feeding trough! It's about time something was done about this.

Another thought: does this mean tickets given in the past on the 190 are invalid? Are previously victimized drivers entitled to a refund? Hmm...class actions suit!
