Sprouts store coming to Richardson this summer
RICHARDSON Sprouts Farmers Market is opening a store in Richardson this summer, followed by another one in Murphy. So far, it has stores in Dallas, Frisco, Flower Mound, Plano, and Southlake.
Maybe Andrew knows this already, that the Richardson store will be in the empty Albertson's at Coit and Campbell roads.

There's an empty Albertson's over there? All I recall is the <a href="http://www.tomthumb.com/storefinder/storeDetails.asp?offset=0&miles=1&limit=1&radius=0&criteria=Select%20a%20Department&store=3637&postalcode=75080&c_miles=2.33&longitude=-96.7656219&latitude=32.9783081&centerlon=-96.7656219&centerlat=32.9783081&to_store=TOM+THUMB&to_address=1380+W%2E+Campbell+Rd%2E&to_city=Richardson&to_state=TX&to_postalcode=75080&to_longitude=%2D96%2E7656219&to_latitude=32%2E9783081&to_phone=972%2D680%2D6010&to_pharm=972%2D680%2D6023">Tom Thumb</a>. I don't venture up yonder much, but I'm all for direct competition keeping prices in check (<a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2008/feb/19/lakewood-whole-foods-decision-has-many-arms/#c21630">I hear</a> Sprouts is a cheaper version of Whole Foods - could be worth investigating).

Yeah, that Albertson's was tucked away by the bike shop. It always seemed kind of dingy and depressing to me - even their fluorescent lights seemed more life-draining than usual. Hopefully sprouts will fix up the place.

T,
Thanks for the shout. The rumors on this started very shortly after Alberston's left. In Alberston's first wave of closings they didn't close any Richardson stores. This was right about the time Richardson approved beer and wine sales. There was a wisdom that the store was safe because beer and wine sales would up their income. However, Alberstons announced a second wave of closings and that store was on the block.
Word has it that one reason Sprouts took the place is because Albertson's still was on the hook for their lease and so Sprouts could get in on the cheap. That's the rumor anyway...
What grocers are missing is the panhandle of Richardson. It is bereft of grocery stores to my knowledge and yet this is where the newest homes and many higher priced homes in Richardson dwell. If one moved in the area they would rake it in.

They had prime filet mignon for like $12 or $13 a pound last week. Thought it was pretty good.
