The Dallas Center for the Performing Arts announced the first season of the Brinker International Forum, the Center’s first annual series of six events, featuring renowned performing artists and, in collaboration with National Geographic Live!, today’s top scientists and explorers. The 2008-2009 season includes a diverse array of performers, filmmakers and scientists, including John Travolta, Diana Ross, Hilary Swank, Ken Burns, Beverly and Dereck Joubert and Spencer Wells.
The Brinker International Forum will go behind the scenes with people who have changed the world through film, music and scientific exploration. The 2008-2009 Forum will give audiences unique opportunities to hear the inside stories from icons of stage and screen, to get behind the camera with filmmakers who bring powerful stories to life and to gain insights from the brightest minds of our time.
The inaugural season of the Brinker International Forum begins in September 2008 in The Meyerson Symphony Center. With the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts opening in fall 2009, the 2009-2010 and all succeeding seasons of the Brinker International Forum will take place in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House.
“The Brinker International Forum was designed to highlight the best of the arts and sciences with programs that will entertain, educate and inspire,” said Doug Brooks, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Brinker International. “Our company is committed to supporting outstanding arts programs that contribute to the growth, enlightenment and vibrancy of this community.”
The Dallas Center for the Performing Arts has also collaborated with the National Geographic Society to bring two National Geographic Live! events to the Brinker International Forum. National Geographic Live! is a popular series of events featuring leading explorers, scientists, filmmakers and photographers covering a wide range of topics including exploration and adventure, wildlife and habitat, natural phenomena and relevant issues such as climate change and energy conservation. Dallas will now join Washington, D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis, Arizona and Seattle in presenting these programs.
“The goal of our National Geographic Live! series is to create a sense of excitement about the world for our audiences by presenting dynamic events featuring National Geographic explorers, scientists, photographers and filmmakers,” said Terry Garcia, executive vice president, Mission Programs, National Geographic Society. “Spencer Wells and Beverly and Dereck Joubert are fascinating people with truly captivating stories to tell about what’s happening on our planet, and we’re delighted to partner with the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts to be able to give the Dallas community the opportunity to meet these inspiring individuals.”
