Frisco Thunder announce broadcasting partnership with Sports Kings

— The Frisco Thunder has partnered with the Sports Kings to call the action for its 2008 Intense Football League season.

Rod Johnson, Darrell Jordan, Gene Thompson and Randy Shortnacy -- who bring a combined 40 years of broadcasting experience -- will provide the call on both the Thunder’s B2 network video as well as well as online audio from the Thunder’s web site. They’ll also host the Monday night coaches show originating from Coach Joe’s Sports Grille in Frisco.

Since 2006, the Sports Kings have been have been hosting a weekly talk show on local Dallas radio and on their web site.

“I’m very excited about partnering with the Sports King,’’ said Thunder owner Jake Reed. “They know the game and they know how to put on a first-class broadcast. This partnership will help both of our organizations grow.”

Thompson will handle play-by-play. He’s hosted sports talk shows in Dallas, Los Angeles, Riverside, Calif and Moreno Valley, Calif. An alumnus of Arkansas-Little Rock and the Columbia School of Broadcasting in San Diego, he’s scored several prominent interviews with the likes of Kobe Bryant, Tommy Lasorda, HBO Boxing’s Larry Marchant.

Johnson, Jordan and Shortnacy will be the color commentators. A Jackson State University product, Johnson has secured several big name guests for the Sports Kings show, including former Dallas Cowboys Jim Jeffcoast and Willie Braughton as well as California Angels star Torii Hunter and Olympic champion Michael Johnson.

Jordan, who has called high school football games in the Dallas area, has been with the Sports Kings since 2006 when they were featured on KMNY 1360 AM. His career highlight was an interview with his childhood idol Julius “Dr. J”. Erving.

The newest member of the team, Shortnacy has produced and hosted morning shows in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. An avid fan of Texas High School football, Shortnacy covered the high school performances of Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings) and Nathan Vasher (Chicago Bears) among others.

All Thunder audiocasts and videocasts will be available on the B2 network through the Thunder’s official web site. Audiocasts will be free while videocasts will cost a nominal fee.

A playoff team its expansion season, the Thunder hosts the opening game of the 2008 Intense Football League season on Saturday, March 1st at 6 p.m. against the San Angelo Stampede Express. All home games will be played in the Deja Blue Arena, located in the Frisco Dr Pepper StarCenter. Season and individual tickets are available now at 972-731-6968.

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight.
