Texas Woman's University is planning to merge their two Dallas medical teaching campuses (one at Parkland and the other at Presbyterian) into one super-duper facility to be constructed on the grounds of Parkland. Groundbreaking for that building is set for 2009, with a planned opening date of 2011.

In support of this new facility, the Hoblitzelle Foundation has awarded TWU half a mil (as in $500,000). The 190,000 sq. ft. facility will be dubbed the T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences-Dallas Center.

While bringing together a range of programs including the TWU College of Nursing, the TWU Stroke Center and the university’s nationally ranked programs in occupational and physical therapy, the single-site facility will foster a team approach to patient care.

Says Dr. Ann Stuart, TWU Chancellor and President: "“The Hoblitzelle Foundation is renowned for its long and distinguished commitment to philanthropy for the health services and education. TWU is deeply appreciative of this generous gift from the foundation, which will help us ensure that the citizens of Texas will be well cared for by the best professionals. These funds are a valuable investment in our students and their role as future healthcare providers for the state."

When up and running, the new facility will allow TWU to increase enrollment and provide students with access to industry-standard technologies in their labs and classrooms.

Appropriately enough, the T. Boone Pickens Foundation is one of the major donors to the project, along with the Simmons Family Foundation; the aforementioned Hoblitzelle Foundation; the Sid W. Richardson Foundation; the Hillcrest Foundation; the Texas Woman’s University Foundation; the Amon G. Carter Foundation; the Tom A. Harris Fund, the Roberta Coke Camp Fund and the Basil Georges Fund of Communities Foundation of Texas; the Pollock Foundation; the Robert Tucker Hays Foundation; Mr. and Mrs. Jere W. Thompson; Mrs. Orien Woolf; Ann Stuart, Chancellor and President of TWU; the Abe Zale Foundation; and the James M. Collins Foundation.

So far, $42.6 million of the $55.5 million required to complete the project has been raised.
