Denton hires urban forester

— Planning and Development Director Mark Cunningham announced today the appointment of Earl J. Cochrum to the position of Urban Forester for the City of Denton. Mr. Cochrum will be responsible for plan review and field enforcement of the Tree Preservation and Mitigation Ordinance to ensure compliance with the City’s tree preservation, protection, and mitigation regulations.

“E.J. has considerable public outreach experience and has worked extensively with contractors and the general public on Urban Forestry issues. This position will be integral to the implementation of the goals and objectives of the Tree Preservation and Mitigation Ordinance,” said Mr. Cunningham.

Since 2004, Mr. Cochrum has worked as a contact forester and division forester for Texas New Mexico Power. From 1998 to 2004, he was a Sergeant in the New Mexico Army National Guard and the United States Army, receiving numerous outstanding service achievement medals.

He holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Agricultural Biology from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mr. Cochrum is a Texas Certified Arborist and a member of the Texas Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture.

"I am honored and excited to fulfill the position of Urban Forester for the city of Denton," said Mr. Cochrum. "I find this to be an invaluable position that will enrich everyone in our community, as well as our future generations."

Mr. Cochrum and his wife, Stefanie, have a daughter, Gracie.
