The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (18-9, 11-3) took a 63-53 win over Huston-Tillotson University (6-20, 5-8) in Red River Athletic Conference action on Monday. The win was the 160th of head coach Terry Waldrop’s career, tying him for the most wins in school history.

Waldrop’s record stands at 160-109 in his ninth season at Texas Wesleyan. He is tied with Elmer Hanebutt who went 160-180 in thirteen seasons (1956-1969).

Texas Wesleyan’s three seniors, Fred Eshon, Dalane Finley, and Aaron Scott were honored prior to playing in their final home game.

The game was tightly contested early on, but the Rams separated themselves with an 8-0 late in the second half. After a pair of free throws from HTU’s Justin Ballou, the Rams took a 37-32 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Rams led by as many as 13 points (59-46) and were never really challenged.

Texas Wesleyan outshot Huston-Tillotson 52%-33% and dominated the glass 40-29.

Dane Dmitrovic was impressive in the win with a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds. Eshon added 18 points and Kennith Gober finished with 10.

Titus Butler led Huston-Tillotson with 15 points.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Marshall, TX, to take on Wiley College. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
