SXSW: Who has the time to go down to Austin and spend all that money for wristbands, merely to stand in line forever and see only a few acts in a given night? Why bother when you can catch so many SXSW bands on their predictable gas money stopover/rehearsal gig in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Denton?
To help you out, I have put together a list of 98 shows in the area that feature SXSW artists. Some criteria to remember when reading the list: 1) A show made the list if at least one band in the lineup is playing an official SXSW show, meaning that not all the artists/bands in the lineup are necessarily going to SXSW; also meaning that I did not include bands playing in non-SXSW showcases in Austin during the festival. 2) I decided to arbitrarily start the listing at March 4 and cut it off at March 22. Without further ado, here is the Pegasus News SXSW 2008 (via DFW) list:

Nice site, Sandieman. And hats off on the Magnolia sponsorship. We tried to get them for our film coverage, but no dice.
Here's the SXSW video widget, in case you catch any of these local gigs...

sigh
Apparently the White Stripes haven't started touring again since Meg's anxiety business in September last year. That was my sole reason for getting excited about ACL and I ended up not going b/c they canceled.
As Erin knows, I'm not a music snob - never heard of most of these people. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've heard of They Might Be Giants, but not $20+ worth (but it should be noted I had no clue they're the theme song for Malcolm in the Middle).
At least let me know who puts on a kickass rock show, plars. I just want to be entertained with something that won't make me want to shoot myself or make me drowsy while I drink.

I relinquished my soul only to be told the following:
Sorry, there are not enough adjacent seats available. Please select tickets by a different method, or reduce the number of tickets and try again.
Damn you, Miko! Daaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmn yoooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuu!! [shakes fist]
As I was saying, suggestions would be appreciated. I listened to a few clips of Nicole Atkins & the Sea - too hippie for Doyle.

I like White Rabbits, This Will Destroy You, Jens Lekman, MSTRKRFT, Islands, and Centro-matic.
I'm kind of a music snob, though, so take that for what it's worth. I don't like TMBG.

Any of 'em put on a kickass rock show, SeƱor Watts?

I think They Might Be Giants had a few songs that didn't make me want to shove scissors into my ear.

White Rabbits, TWDY (Instrumental) and Centro are probably your best best for a good rock show. Jens is swedish indie pop, Islands are descendants from the great Unicorns pop and MSTRKRFT is straight up dance floor shakedown.
