UNT track signs three to national letters of intent

University of North Texas track and field coach Rick Watkins announced Monday the signing of three high school seniors to National Letters of Intent.
All three signees will help a women’s team that picked up a third place finish this past weekend at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships. It was the sixth time in the last seven years the Mean Green women have earned a third place or better finish.
Amy Alcala / Distance / Palmer, Texas (Ennis High School)
Alcala was a four-year letter winner in both cross country and track for head coach Lonnie Redning and Ennis High School. Alcala, a two-time District 14-4A champion, was a four-time regional qualifier and finished amongst the top 50 in state her junior season. On the track, she holds the school record in both the 1600 and 3200-meter run.
Sara Dietz / Middle Distance / Prosper, Texas (Prosper High School)
Dietz earned the distance MVP award her freshman year at Propser High School. Dietz, who lettered in both cross country and track, has been selected to the honor roll every year since she was a freshman. She earned the distance MVP award and was honored with the Girl’s Fighting Heart award as a freshman for coaches Bryan Beck and Rachelle Robbins.
Maria Dominguez / Throws / Joshua, Texas (Joshua High School)
Dominguez was a three-time District 8-4A champion in the throws and owns the school record in both the discuss and shot put at Joshua High School. She placed third in the shot put at the 5A state meet, tallying a record toss of 41-06.75. Dominguez, a member of the National Honor Society, also lettered in volleyball and basketball, where she was a multiple all-county selection in both sports.
