U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper of Texas's Northern District has alleged that the Dallas Independent School District has misused federal grant money, a violation under the civil False Claims Act.

The backstory stems from 2006, when a whistleblower came forward to allege the district was misusing funds it had received in 2002 from a federal grant by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The district has said it will pay $316,000 to settle the case out of court and admit no wrongdoing.
