The History Channel's Thursday (February 28) episode of Modern Marvels: Superhighways will highlight the $262 million, five-level interchange at 635 and 75 known as the Dallas High Five.

The show will feature an appearance by retired Texas Department of Transportation District Engineer Jay Nelson, of Kaufman. Nelson worked for TxDOT for 30 years and oversaw billions of dollars worth of highway construction around Dallas. He was also project engineer on several projects, including the expansion of U.S. 175, construction of I-20, and the aesthetic reconstruction of U.S. 80 in downtown Terrell.

Nelson's interview about a 12-story five-level interchange that's become the latest Dallas tourist attraction was recorded in late 2007. The hour-long show, which airs at 7 p.m., will also feature a multi-billion dollar expansion project in Houston where a stretch of superhighway is being widened to 20 lanes, and China's 28,000-mile National Trunk Highway System.

'Modern Marvels' is a great show. They can take topics that seem mundane, and really surprise you with just how amazing something is. This episode, like all of them, was great.
