UPDATED: James Fantroy faces one month in jail for embezzlement
Updated 08:34 a.m., May 20, 2008
DALLAS Former Dallas City Council member James Fantroy, who had been on trial on charges of embezzling $20,000 from Paul Quinn College, was found guilty.
UPDATE: Wednesday a federal judge told Fantroy, who has maintained his innocence, he must go to prison for one month if he does not admit guilt. Regardless, Fantroy will be under house arrest for six months with two years probation, and must repay $17,000 of the $20,000 he was found guilty of embezzling. Fantroy's attorney said he'll consider his options over the holiday weekend. If Fantroy (who is confined to a wheelchair) chooses incarceration, his sentence would begin June 25.

I can't help it. I laughed when I heard the verdict. My momma told me when accused "deny deny deny" as well, but she also told me to stay away from crime.

Jeez. Every time I think I can't get any more disgusted with these situations, I find I can.
Can you imagine the how fast and how severe the prison term would be for the 'average' person. The long-lasting repercussions?
Now imagine the outcome here...

I wonder if local prisons are handicap-accessible.

I've never posted before, but Ms. Wilson's comment encouraged me to do so. Yes, it's sad that a handicapped person "could" face prison time - certainly a harsh experience for anyone, but he has been given a choice - admission of guilt or prison. Should offenders be let off with lesser punishment simply because they are handicapped in some way or should they pay the same price for their actions as a non-handicapped person? His handicap did not stop him from taking $20k that didn't belong to him.

RedRockerMarcy: I hope you didn't mistake my comment for concern. I couldn't give a crap if he's paralyzed from the neck down.
