Junior R.J. Hesselberg won the three-meter diving event on Wednesday to highlight the opening day of the Mountain West Conference Championships for TCU in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Hesselberg, a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, set a new TCU record with a score of 359.80 to win a MWC individual championship in the three-meter dive. Hesselberg became the fifth Horned Frog to win a title in TCU's three seasons in the conference.
Freshman Kyle Callens also had a stellar showing in the three-meter event, placing third with a career-best score of 310.55.
The 200-medley relay team of Jonathon Berrettini, Cameron Allred, Josh Bagby and Scott McCracken swam to a third-place finish with a time of 1:30.43. The time ranks third all-time in TCU history.
The men's 800-free relay squad of Bagby, Jason Hauck, Jeff Hendricks and Ben Biefnes finished seventh with a time of 6:41.39, which is good enough for fifth-best in the TCU record book.
On the women's side, sophomore diver Jennifer Ferguson placed eighth in the one-meter springboard event with a score of 250.40.
The 200-medley team of Samantha Smith, Ellie Bradley, Natalie Melenric and Mychala Lynch recorded a seventh-place showing with a time of 1:46.69, while the 800-free relay squad of Meredith Grubb, Brittney Martinez, Maria Alvarez and Jessica Miles finished seventh with a time of 7:39.39.
The Frogs will continue action in Oklahoma City on Thursday. Live stats can be viewed at http://themwc.cstv.com/livestats/c-swim/results/index.htm
